In a major announcement, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh  on Tuesday given green signal to the much-awaited waiver of farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised in party's 'Sankalp Patra' (Manifesto) to waive off farm loan in Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also said in his election rallies that writing off farm loans would be among the BJP government's one of the first decisions in Uttar Pradesh.
The decision to waive off farm loan by the BJP-led government in UP will benefit 86 lakh farmers and is likely to cost the state exchequer Rs 36,000 crore.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is taking his first cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Â The government is expected to announce farm loan waiver as it was promised by the party in its manifesto.
The other issues like electricity in rural areas and an ordinance on slaughterhouses may also feature in the announcement list.
On Monday late night, the chief minister took presentations of six departments related to education sector. The senior officials of Education Department gave their presentations which had included higher education, secondary education, primary education and professional education. The meeting lasted nearly eight hours. All senior officials of concerned departments were present.
During the meeting, it was decided to focus on regularisation of sessions, to conduct examinations within time, to fill all vacant posts and to curb cheating in the state. The teachers were asked to present on time in schools.
