Lost trust in EVMs, ballot paper system must be restored, Opposition parties tell Election Commission

A delegation of opposition parties on Monday met the Election Commission officials and demanded to restore old system of ballot paper usage in the elections.

The delegation was headed by Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, CPI leader D Raja, NCP leader Majid Memon and other senior leaders. They met the officials and said that they have lost trust in EVMs. 

Several opposition parties, including AAP and BSP, have raised their apprehensions over EVM tampering.

Earlier in the day, leaders of various opposition parties had met in Parliament and had decided to jointly meet the Election Commission, demanding that their concerns on the issue be addressed.

The opposition leaders have been demanding that VVPAT (paper trail of voting) be introduced in all future elections. The Congress has also been pushing for use of ballot papers instead of EVMs in upcoming elections in view of the alleged tampering.
