Around 50 women in postoperative care at Kamla Raja Government Hospital in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh fell ill few minutes after they were injected with an antibiotic by a trainee male nurse on Sunday late.
However, the Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Sharad Jain even 18 hours after the incident was unaware about the incident.
On being questioned by News Nation regarding the actions he is planning the minister said, “I have learnt about the incident from you.”
The health minister further added, “Once I receive a detail report on the incident, stringent actions will be taken against people responsible for it.”
According to senior doctors of the hospital, most of the women who complained illness after the injection are stable and have shifted to ICU ward. Five are said to be critical.
Hospital sources told News Nation that more than 50 women out of 55 admitted in the postoperative ward were injected with an ampicillin around 9:30pm on Sunday. The women who were injected with the antibiotic complained of shivering and nausea.
Gwalior district collector had ordered an inquiry into the incident. The government hospital has also instigated an internal probe into the matter. The injection sample has been seized and sent for forensic test.
