Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi may visit Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur on Wednesday to meet the family members of farmers killed in police firing, said party sources.

Five farmers were killed and four injured on Tuesday after police opened fire on them following protests and stone pelting. Curfew has been imposed in sensitive areas.

Reacting to the killings of farmers, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed Centre saying that the NDA government is at war with the farmers in the country.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered a judicial inquiry into the firing incident and called an emergency meeting of ministers regarding the matter.

CM Shivraj Singh has also briefed BJP president Amit Shah about the situation in Mandsaur, over the phone.

Singh had announced ex-gratia of Rs one crore to the kin of deceased in the firing incident. He also assured a government job to the kin of deceased as per their eligibility.

The Chief Minister had also urged people to maintain peace. A few people are trying to disturb the accord, but the government is committed to development in the state, he said.
