The heads pf three men were tonsured by villagers for allegedly killing a cow in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district on Friday.
The three accused were charged with stealing and killing a cow for its meat, according to police.
“The cow belonging to one Nihal Singh of Nehtada village was stolen on Thursday night. On learning the theft a search operation was launched by the villagers,” Alirajpur district superintendent of police (DSP) Vipul Khare said.
The villagers found the animal’s meat from the house of the two arrested, the official added.
“The two were taken captive by the villagers. They further informed one Imran’s role in the theft and killing of the cow,” Khare said.
The three arrested have been identified as Imran, Indu Bhuria and Mangu Bhuria. The accused, during questioning, told the police that Imran stole the cow and slaughtered it.
The Madhya Pradesh Police have registered FIR against the three under IPC Section 379 and provisions of MP Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act.
“Meat recovered from Indu and Mangu’s residence have been seized and sent for forensic test,” the DSP added.
