In a tragic incident, around 13 college students were drowned in Murud-Janjira beach, a popular tourist spot, in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, reports said on Monday.
Around 115 students from the Abeda Inamdar college in Pune had reportedly went on a picnic to the beach. According to police, bodies of 10 girls and three boys were recovered.
18 students had gone to swim and five out of them were rescued, according to a local revenue official. The students had gone to the Murud beach in three buses.
Coast Guard and fishermen are involved in the rescue operation, the official said.
