Hours ahead of the floor test of Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) state unit chief Chandrakant Patil slammed the 'Maha Vikas Aghadi' for changing the Protem Speaker. Terming it 'legally wrong', Patil said that the new government is violating rules. He further added that the BJP will be filing a petition with the Governor and might also approach the Supreme Court.

Speaking to the media, Chandrakant Patil said, "They changed the Protem speaker from Kalidas Kolambkar to Dilip Walse Patil which is legally wrong. The oath was also not taken as per rules. The Uddhav Thackeray-led government is violating all rules.” "We are filing petition with the governor, and might also approach the Supreme Court," he added.

It is to be noted that Chandrakant Patil’s statement comes a day after the newly formed Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP government removed BJP MLA Kalidas Kolambkar as the Protem Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly and appointed senior NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil as his replacement.

Earlier today, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat conformed Nana Patole as its candidate for Speaker elections while the BJP announced party leader Kisan Kathore as its candidate.

Uddhav Thackeray and six other ministers, two each from Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP, were sworn in a day earlier with the new CM presiding over his government's first cabinet meeting. According to the reports, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray is unlikely to move to Varsha i.e. the chief minister's official residence at Malabar Hill. However, Thackeray will head all key meetings at Varsha and his office will be on the sixth floor of Mantralaya.

It is worth mentioning here that the election for Assembly Speaker will be held on Sunday and it will be followed by tabling of a motion of thanks on the Governor's address in the House. The new Speaker will then announce the name of the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
