The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered huge victory in the Congress-dominated Latur civic body on Friday. The saffron party also retained power in the Chandrapur municipal corporation in Maharashtra.Â
The Congress was leading in Parbhani in 30 out of 65 seats, where NCP was leading in 20 seats.
Voting for 201 seats in the three municipal corporations was held on Wednesday.Â
Latur
Latur district of Maharashtra has been wrecked by five years of consecutive drought. For the first time since Independence, Latur voted for the BJP, the party which had no seats in municipal corporation.
According to the latest reports, the BJP won 41 seats out of 70 seats of the Latur Municipal Corporation, pushing Congress party to second position.Â
Congress had won 49 seats in 2012 polls, but managed to win just 28 seats in this year's Municipal Corporation elections.Â
Many congratulations to all katyakartas who worked hard for this victory!
