The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party led by Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi won two seats in cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and five seats in Solapur Municipal Corporation.
In BMC, the AIMIM candidates grabbed Cheeta Camp and Byculla seats.
Reports say that the party will emerge victorious in at least six to eight seats in BMC where it had fielded 59 candidates.
Most of the Muslim leaders and activists believe that the party has a good chance of winning from South Mumbai areas.
Owaisi, an ambitious Mulsim leader from Hyderabad, is making rapid electoral gains through his party.
In 2014, the party had won two seats in the Maharashtra assembly polls, one from Aurangabad and another from Byculla in Mumbai.
The AIMIM won 11 seats in the 81-member Nanded Municipal Corporation elections in 2012.
In April 2015, it emerged as the second largest party in the Aurangabad municipal elections, with 26 seats in a 113-member Municipal Council. It contested 54 seats and won more than half of them.
