Twitter on Tuesday joined hands with the rest of the world and celebrates the Gandhi Jayanti day with a new customised ‘Gandhi Emoji’.
People across the globe observed the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the iconic leaders of India, who led India to freedom from the British colonial rule.
The ‘Gandhi Emoji’ was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the micro-blogging site, which features a caricature of the 'Father of the Nation', Twitter India said in a statement.

The emoji, which goes live on October 2, will be available through the week. The emoji is available on both Twitter and Twitter Lite, it said.
According to a statement, the users, both in India and across the world, can use the Gandhiji emoji by using hashtags like #GandhiJayanti, #MKGandhi, #BapuAt150, #MahatmaGandhi, #MyGandhigiri, #MahatmaAt150 and #NexusOfGood, among others.
“Twitter continues to celebrate all cultures with customised initiatives for key milestones and events across the world. These initiatives are conceptualised keeping in mind the sentiment and are a delightful way to reinforce a sense of unity and harmony among people in India and Indians around the world,” it added.
Earlier, the micro-blogging site had celebrated India’s Independence Day, Republic Day, Diwali and International Yoga day with customised emoji to mark the events.
