Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that since the NDA government did not consult the states while passing the mass health insurance scheme, ‘Modicare,’ so they will walk out of the scheme.
The WB CM made this announcement while addressing a rally at Krishnanagar and termed the health insurance scheme as a complete waste.
She said that the state will not contribute its share to the programme.
“The Centre has drawn up a health plan in which 40 per cent of the fund has to come from states. But why should the state spend on another programme when it already has its own? A state will have its own scheme if it has the resources,” said the CM.
Where Niti Ayog assessed the outlay of this mass health care plan to somewhere around Rs 5000-6000 crore, the centre has allocated only Rs 2000 crore and the rest is expected to be the contribution from the states.
Government of West Bengal already has a public healthcare scheme called ‘Swasthya Sathi’, for the almost 50 lakh people that includes government employees, contractual or casual labourers.
The Bengal CM also hit out at the Modi Government’s, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana' calling it as an absolute flop.
“Through this bill, they would take away your fixed deposits. They have also said that bank would not accept cash. If people would not deposit cash then they would park their money with chit funds. Will that be good?” she asked.
“If they don’t take the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI Bill) back, I have decided to start a massive protest,” Mamata said.
