A man followed by BJP leaders Rakesh Sinha and Kapil Mishra and "Congress sympathiser Tehseen Punawalla on Twitter has written controversial posts about "Father of the Nation" Mahatma Gandhi and hailed his killer Nathuram Godse on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary. Anuj Bajpai, who introduces himself as a news and political analyst and has a verified Twitter account, hailed the killer of Mahatma Gandhi for "cleaning India" for the first time.

"Today on October 2 Cleanliness Day, we salute late Nathuram Godseji who first cleaned India," he wrote on Twitter. Not just this, many of his tweets were defying the official stand of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, taking a swipe at the BJP, said the the saffron party should first pursue the path of truth shown by Mahatma Gandhi and then talk about him. "It was the order of Gandhiji to pursue the path of truth. First, the BJP should pursue the path of truth and then talk about Gandhiji," the Congress leader said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the 'Einstein Challenge' to ensure that the ideals of Bapu are remembered by future generations. PM Modi proposed the challenge in a column written for The New York Times on Mahatma Gandhi's 150 birth anniversary. The column published on Gandhi Jayanti is titled 'Why India and the World Need Gandhi'.
