Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Monday said he would resign by Tuesday to facilitate the process of government formation in the state which has got a hung assembly following the just-concluded elections.
N Biren Singh was elected the leader of BJP legislature party in Manipur. Union Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that he will be party's chief ministerial candidate in Manipur. Biren Singh has claimed of unconditional support from NPF and majority to form government.
“I will resign by tomorrow to facilitate the process of government formation,” he told reporters in Imphal.
He further asserted that all the Congress MLAs are united and NPP MLAs are with their party. He also said that although Shyam Kumar has defected, but others will not.
Ibobi continues to claim NPP support whereas National president of NPP Conrad K Sangma has denied it and has repeatedly said that they are with BJP.

Manipur Governor Najma Heptullah had earlier said that she could start the process of government formation once the incumbent chief minister resigned.
Ibobi Singh, however, has been arguing that with the Congress emerging as the single largest party, he should be given the first opportunity to form the government.
“I am ready for a floor test and I have the numbers with me,” said Singh.
