Maratha Kranti Morcha rally: Mumbaikars witness heavy traffic jam at various places in city

Lakhs of Maratha community members on Wednesday started reaching for a rally to press their demand of reservation in jobs and education.

The Mumbaikars witnessed traffic snarls at major location due to crowd. Long queues of car could be seen at Thane Eastern expressway highway.

It will be the 58th - and the largest - protest march of the Maratha community, exactly a year after the first march was held in Aurangabad, the organisers told reporters here.

So far, 57 protests, in the form of mook Morcha (silent rallies), have been held in various parts of the state following the brutal rape and murder of a 14-year-old Maratha girl in Kopardi in Ahmednagar district in July 2016.

The Central Railway had made elaborate arrangements to deal with the rush which is expected on Wednesday on account of `Maratha Morcha', a planned gathering of the Maratha community, in Mumbai.

Lakhs of community members were expected to travel to the city for the event from across Maharashtra.

"Based on inputs about number of people who will go back to their destinations after the rally, probably after two pm, we will run additional suburban services as per the requirement, as are run during peak hours," Sunil Udasi, chief PRO of Central Railway, had said.
