Massive fire breaks out at Kumbh Mela camp in Prayagraj

This is the second incident of fire in less than a week at Kumbh Mela

A massive fire broke out at one of the tents of Prayagwaal Sabha at Ardha Kumbh 2019 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. The fire reportedly broke out at sector 13 of the Kumbh Mela. According to initial reports, the fire was caused because of a short circuit. Three fire engines have been rushed to the spot to control the fire. No one is so far reported to be injured in the fire.

This is the second incident of fire in less than a week. Earlier on January 14, a fire broke out in one of the tents of the Digambar Akhada because of a cylinder blast.

TV visuals showed people running for their safety. Plume of thick smoke could be seen billowing from one of the tents. The fire could have spread to a bigger area, but quick response from the authorities averted the disaster. To make Kumbh 2019 a success, the Government of Uttar Pradesh is carrying out many development works and taking several initiatives.

Kumbh Mela is celebrated four times over a course of 12 years. More than 12 crore people are expected to take part in the event over the next 50 days.

The 2019 Kumbh Mela started on January 15 on Makar Sankranti, the first bathing day. Mahashivratri on March 4 will mark the last bathing day.

Devotees take holy dips at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati.
