Holy city of Mathura is in fire from last two days. Around 24 people including an additional SP-rank officer were killed during a clash been land grabbers and police during an eviction drive. The police were trying to evict activists of the Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi from Jawahar Bagh on the orders of Allahabad High Court. The encroachers have been camping there for the past two years.
The leader of the activists, Ram Briksh Yadav was the main culprit behind the clash. Not only Yadav, the security officer of the group, Chandan Gaur, was involved in the killings.
The Kranti Satyagrahi describes itself as a social group and has been making demands such as replacing the Indian currency with the Azad Hind Fauj currency and selling 60 litres of diesel and 40 litres of petrol for Re 1.
Around 3,000 encroachers hurled stones and later opened fire at the police team as they reached the spot. Sporadic clashes have been reported from some towns in Uttar Pradesh, where preparations for Assembly elections next year have begun. Spread over 60 acres, Jawahar Bagh belongs to the horticulture department of the state government.
