Mauni Amavasya Vrat 2018 is being celebrated on Tuesday. This is the occasion where people observe Maun Vrat, in which people dedicate and try connecting to one's inner self and to God.
According to Hindu calendar, Mauni Amavasya falls in the month of Magh. While observing Maun Vrat one is able to check his/ her patients and try controlling rough and tough words against others.

This is the reason that Mauni Amavasya is considered as sacred and people take a holy dip in river Ganges and observe Maun Vrat.
