New Delhi:

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati has criticised opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, for scheduling a visit to Jammu and Kashmir without permission. Mayawati also reiterated her party's support to the abrogation of provisions of Article 370.

A delegation of Opposition leaders had gone to Srinagar on Saturday to see the ground situation in the region. The visit happened after Governor Satya Pal Malik had made an offer to Gandhi to come and see the situation in Kashmir after the abrogation of provisions of Article 370. However, they were not allowed to step out of Srinagar airport and were sent back an hour after landing in the city.

The BSP chief on Monday said the Kashmir visit only gave a chance for the BJP and Malik to politicise the issue. She said the Congress and other opposition leaders should have waited for the situation to normalise in the Valley.

"Isn't the recent visit of the Congress and other opposition parties to Kashmir without permission act as a chance for the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir Governor to politicise the issue?" Mayawati asked in a series of tweets on Monday.

Mayawati said it will take some time for the situation to normalise in Kashmir amd it would have been appropriate for the opposition leaders to consider the consequences of their visit.

"It will take some time for the situation to become normal there [Kashmir]. It is better to wait a bit, which is also considered by the Honorable Court," Mayawati wrote.

Mayawati has supported to the Centre's decision to revoke Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. "The demand to implement the Constitution's 'social, economic and political justice' in the country by removing Article 370 and 35A, was long pending. The BSP hopes people there will get the benefits of the Central government's decision," Mayawati had said.
