Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday said that her party would not ally with the Congress and contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on its own. While Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi’s intention for the alliance were "honest", some leaders like Digvijaya Singh were “sabotaging” this, she said.

“I feel that Sonia Gandhi & Rahul Gandhi's intentions for Congress-BSP alliance are honest. However, some Congress leaders like Digvijaya Singh do not wish for a Congress-BSP alliance. They are afraid of agencies like ED, CBI,” Mayawati said while addressing a press conference.

Terming the senior Congress leader from Madhya Pradesh a “BJP agent”, the BSP chief said, “Digvijay Singh, who is also a BJP agent, is giving statements that Mayawati has a lot of pressure from Centre so she doesn’t want this alliance. This is baseless.”

Mayawati accused the Congress of trying to finish off the BSP and said that it was under “misconception” that they can win the elections on their own but people had not yet forgiven them for its mistakes.

“They (Congress) are getting arrogant and are under the misconception that they can defeat BJP on their own but the ground reality is that people haven't forgiven Congress party for their mistakes and corruption...They don't seem to be ready to rectify themselves,” ANI quoted the BSP leader as saying.
