A talk on the topic “Let's Talk About Cancer” was organized in Police Lines, Ludhiana for creating mass awareness against cancer, especially breast cancer. The theme of the talk was "Catch it in time, beat it every time early detection matters".
A free medical checkup and breast cancer screening camp was also organized on the occasion, in which a team of doctors from DMCH, Ludhiana examined and treated the patients. Majority of those who examined and treated were the female police personnel.
The event was hosted by trust run by Sanjeev Arora MP (Rajya Sabha), Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Care Charitable Trust (KPBCCT) and vice president of DMCH Managing Society. KPBCCT organizes a series of such mass awareness events in the month of October every year because October is celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month all over the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Arora remembered his mother who lost her life because of late detection of breast cancer. Later, he formed an NGO and started creating mass awareness against this disease. He said no doubt, cancer is a dangerous disease, but it can be cured if detected at an early stage. And detection can only be done if a person is aware about how to self-detect cancer, he said, adding that many precious human lives can be saved if early detection is done. He added if early detection of cancer is done then it can be treated like any other common disease. In his address, Mandeep S Sidhu, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMCH, Dr GS Brar, Dr Suman Puri & Dr Sandhya Sood Ludhiana highly appreciated Arora for rendering selfless services to the suffering humanity. They prayed to God to give more strength to Arora for rendering more service to suffering people. All the Doctors addressed full house and informed them how to self-detect and what all needs to be done to Detect breast Cancer. Also, all were requested to spread awareness of this issue.
Arora said not only women but a few men, mainly those who are obese, also suffer from breast cancer. He also spoke in detail about Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Care Charitable Trust which adopts cancer patients for their lifelong treatment. He said Trust has adopted more than 250 cancer patients so far, and this process is going on.
Further, Arora said in July this year he had announced to provide free treatment worth Rs 1.5 lakh each to 100 Cancer patients every year. He added he had made this announcement, while chairing a meeting of Punjab Health Department Officials in Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. in-fact, he was replying to a demand raised in today’s function that Cancer patients in Punjab are already being provided treatment worth Rs 1.5 lakh under Mukh Mantri Cancer Rahat Kosh, but this amount should have been raised. In reply, Arora said he had already announced to provide free treatment worth Rs 1.5 lakh each to 100 Cancer patients every year and it will be in the shape of matching contribution by the Trust. As such, patients will get free treatment worth a total of Rs 3 lakhs. He said the patients have already started getting benefit from his announcement.
Arora admitting that medical expenses are very high in India and in the case of cancer treatment, the expenses incur into lakhs of rupees. It was his dream that no patient of cancer should suffer due to lack of treatment because of unaffordability. This was why he announced to give a matching grant to Mukh Mantri Cancer Rahat Kosh.
He also advised people to get insurance cover because always prevails uncertainty. He said he is committed to working for cancer patients, especially breast cancer patients and creating mass awareness in this regard.
Among others, Dhanpreet Kaur (DIG Ludhiana range), Saumya Mishra (JCP), Rupinder Singh (DCP HQ), Rupinder Kaur Bhatti (ADCP HQ), Ravinder Singh Dhillon (ACP HQ), Dr Gurpreet Brar, Dr Suman Puri, Dr Nitish Garg and Dr Sandhya Sood were present on the occasion.
