Amid nationwide protests against sexual assaults on minors in Kathua, Surat and Bihar, a case has been reported from a remote village in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills, where a 60-year-old man raped his seven-year-old minor granddaughter.
Meghalaya Police on Thursday said that the accused grandfather has been arrested.
According to Meghalaya police officials, on April 10 evening, the victim was raped three times by her grandfather in Kam Gandim. She had gone to the accused residence to collect her books.
The incident came to surface, after the girl complained of severe pain in abdomen and private parts. She narrated the gory incident to her mother after on being enquired.
The victim’s mother on learning the alleged rape reported the incident to her family members, who later handed over the accused grandfather to the police.
North Garo Hills superintendent of police Dalton Marak told the media that they have registered a case under relevant Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections and under POSCO Act.
