Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called on Governor NN Vohra on Tuesday evening and discussed the overall situation in the valley.
"During the hour-long meeting at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti discussed with Governor NN Vohra the overall situation in the Valley," an official spokesman said.
He said the chief minister also discussed the steps underway for re-energising the development projects and enabling the restoration of the severely disturbed schedules of the educational system, at all levels.
The Governor urged sustained sharp focus on the implementation of the various works and development projects and the administrative apparatus working over time to catch up on all fronts.
"The governor also discussed with the Chief Minister the likely timeframe for the conduct of elections to the urban and rural self-governing bodies," the spokesperson said.
In this context, Vohra stressed the importance of empowerment of the rural population through the effective establishment of the panchayati raj institutions.
Mehbooba informed the governor that she is considering a time frame for the panchayat elections, to be preferably held early next year, other things being equal.
