New Delhi:

A day after Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad ruled out any alliance with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday broke his silence over the speculations of a possible PDP-INC alliance to form the government in the militancy-hit state.

Taking to Twitter, Mufti wrote, "Amused at media speculations about a possible PDP-INC alliance to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir".

"Conjecture also includes an impending meeting between Sonia Ji & I. This is utter fabrication & yet another unfortunate example of #FakeNews!" the former chief minister added.

The PDP and the Congress respectively have 28 and 12 sets in the 87-member Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. A simple majority of 44 seats is required to form the government and some PDP members have been reportedly trying to seek the support of the CPI(M) and independent members.

Amidst this high-octane political drama, the Congress on Monday called a party meeting to discuss its future strategy in Jammu and Kashmir, which will be followed by a two-day conclave in Srinagar. The conclave is expected to mark the attendance of all party leaders from Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir.

Earlier in June, BJP had pulled out of the alliance government in the state, forcing PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti to resign as the chief minister.
