With an aim to curb terror financing and other terror-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the leadership of Amit Shah has reportedly constituted a Multi-Disciplinary Terror Monitoring Group (TMG).
According to the reports, the Terror Monitoring Group (TMG) comprises of eight members which will be led by Additional DGP CID of Jammu & Kashmir Police. The high-level group also has representatives from Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
The Terror Monitoring Group (TMG) will be responsible for taking coordinated as well as stringent measures to resolve all cases registered related to terrorism, including terror financing. The newly-constituted group will also be responsible for identifying major leaders of terror organisations and its sympathisers. The TMG will meet on a weekly basis and submit their action taken report regularly.
It is to be noted that the move of setting up TMG comes amid crackdown from central agencies on groups in the Kashmir Valley including the JKLF and the Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir. The JKLF and the Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir is believed to be involved in supporting and financing separatism and terrorism. Soon after PM Modi-led government came in power, the central agencies revealed massive nexus between Hurriyat, terrorist organizations and stone pelters. So far, many separatist leaders have been found to be providing funds to all major terrorist group like LeT and Hizbul.
