New Delhi:

A microlight aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Assam on Wednesday during a routine sortie.

The aircraft, which crashed near the Majuli island in the state, had two pilots onboard. Two pilots onboard were killed in the incident.

An official said, “The incident took place near Sumoimari Chapori. Officials of the Defence Ministry and the Indian Army have started to come here.”

IAF has launched a probe to find out the reasons behind the crash.

The police think that a technical failure has resulted in the incident. A full inquiry has been ordered by the Majuli officials to look out at the exact cause of the accident.

Initial report says the chopper took off from Rowriah airport in Assam's Jorhat district and was flying towards Arunachal Pradesh. The aircraft, with two pilots, crash landed at a remote sand island on Brahmaputra under Majuli district at afternoon.
