Militant killed in Kashmir's Handwara encounter

A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Army has launched cordon and search operation in the area and the encounter was still underway. The identity of the terrorist was yet to be ascertained.

Earlier in the day, three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers sustained injuries after militants hurled a hand grenade at their bunker in Zerpora area of Anantnag's Bijbehara. The injured jawans were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition was said to be stable.

On Wednesday, two local Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The militants were later identified as Adil Ahmad Bhat of Doda and Bilal Ahmad Dar of Kulgam district.

The encounter came in wake of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage that began on June 28 in the Valley this year.
