Militants on Thursday attacked an Army patrol party near the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Two soldiers were injured in the firing.

“Terrorists opened fire on a link patrol ahead of the fence at the Line of Control in Keran sector,” PTI quoted a Defence Spokesman as saying.

The attack came on a day when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is in the state on a two-day visit to review the security arrangements ahead of Amarnath yatra.

The Army was retaliating to attack and the operation was still on when the lasts reports came in.

Singh, who arrived in the Valley on Thursday morning, will hold several meetings with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Governor NN Vohra and several top civil, police and paramilitary officials.

The home minister would take a detailed review of the situation since May 16 when the Centre unilaterally announced the suspension of anti-terror operations during the month of Ramzan.

According to officials, Singh may also make an announcement on whether the suspension of anti-terror operations would continue during the Amaranth yatra beginning from June 28.
