Taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s single-use-plastic ban drive, the Ministry of Railways has initiated an awareness programme making people conscious of the toxic impact of plastic usage on environment. In a video posted from Indian Railways’ official Twitter handle, the ministry elaborates how frequent usage of plastic deteriorates environment.

Single-use-plastic ban is one of PM Modi’s ambitious ideas dedicated towards a clean and healthy India. PM Modi urged people to observe the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as a day to make India plastic-free and exhorted municipalities, NGOs and the corporate sector to come up with ways for safe disposal of accumulated plastic waste before Diwali. He suggested all municipalities, municipal corporations, district administrations, gram panchayats, government and non-governmental bodies to work towards ensuring adequate arrangement for collection and storage of plastic waste.

In his Independence Day's address, he appealed the countrymen citizens to eliminate 'single-use' plastic and suggested that shopkeepers provide eco-friendly bags to customers.
