Azhagiri says brother Stalin standing in his way back to DMK

Expelled Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader MK Azhagiri, the elder son of late DMK chief M Karunanidhi, on Thursday said that he wanted to return to the party but his younger brother and new chief MK Stalin would not allow him to do so.

“We are ready to join with them (DMK) but he (MK Stalin) is not ready to accept us,” news agency ANI quoted Azhagiri as saying in Madurai.

Just ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the DMK had expelled Azhagiri, a former minister in the UPA government, for anti-party activities after differences with his father Karunandihi.

After Stalin’s election as DMK chief, Azhagiri had warned the party of “consequences” if he wasn’t taken back. He has also planned a peace march on to his Karunanidhi's grave on Chennai's Marina Beach on September 5.

"If they take us back into the party, we have to accept Stalin as leader, right? There is no other way. If we are not taken back, I will take a decision after meeting with my supporters," he added.
