Local MLA Abdul Sattar on Monday tendered his resignation as the president of Aurangabad district Congress, alleging that the party leaders did not cooperate with him in the municipal council elections held on Sunday.

Polling for 19 municipal councils and two nagar panchayats in Aurangabad, Nanded, Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts took place on Sunday.

As per the results that came out on Monday, Congress won the municipal council in Khuldabad and Kannad, while the BJP won Paithan and Gangapur municipal councils.

Sources close to Sattar, who is the MLA from Sillod assembly constituency, said that he tendered his resignation as he was upset that the party leaders and office-bearers did not turn out for the election campaign and hence it had to lose in the two tehsils in the district.

Despite repeated attempts, Sattar could not be reached for his reaction.
