Former prime minister Manmohan Singh lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in New Delhi on Sunday and mocked him saying that his ‘jumlas’ can’t replace policymaking.

“PM Modi’s claims of doubling farmer’s income by 2022 will require the agriculture sector to grow at the rate of 14 per cent but this is nowhere in sight,” Singh said during his speech at the CWC meeting.

Singh, the former prime minister and a noted economist, assured full support to Congress president Rahul Gandhi in his “onerous task” of restoring India’s economic development and social harmony.

“I assure Shri Rahul Gandhi ji that we will fully support him on his onerous task of restoring India’s social harmony & economic development,” he said.

“Reverse countdown” of Modi government has begun: Sonia Gandhi

Apart from Singh, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi also hit out at the Modi saying his rhetoric showed his “desperation” and reflected that the “reverse countdown” of his government has started.

Sonia cautioned people about the “reign of despair and fear” and accused the “dangerous” NDA regime of compromising with the democracy of India.

“We have to rescue our people from a dangerous regime that is compromising with the democracy of India,” the UPA chairperson said.
