Karnataka Congress lawmaker’s son Mohammad Harris Nalapad, who was accused of beating up an injured man at a restaurant on Saturday, had surrendered at Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park Police Station on Monday morning.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had ordered strict action against the Bengaluru legislator NA Harris’ son for thrashing a man because he placed his injured leg on the table. The state Congress President G Parameshwara said Nalapad, who is the leader of the Youth Congress in Bengaluru district, has been expelled from the party for six years.

The Congress lawmaker in Karnataka, NA Harris, father of the accused Mohammad Harris Nalapad, said, “Whoever does wrong is wrong, be it the son of an MLA or anyone else. I have always advised my son to never do anything wrong. I will see that my son does not do anything like this again.”

Harris Nalapad apparently was having dinner at a restaurant in the high scaled UB City mall where an injured man, named Vidwath, had placed his bandaged foot on the table of the restaurant. Nalapad asked him to remove his foot from the table and ‘sit properly’. Vidwath refused to do so which led to an argument between the two of them, and after that Nalapad and his friends started beating Vidwath, eyewitnesses said.

Vidwath was immediately rushed to the Mallya Hospital where Nalapad and his friends threatened him against filing an FIR or complaint.

Historian Ramachandra Guha, a resident of Bengaluru, shred this news on his Twitter handle, demanding strict action against Nalapad, which sparked an uproar on the social media.

CM Siddaramaiah responded to Guha’s tweet saying strict action will be taken against the accused. He tweeted, “Offenders should be punished to the full extent of law regardless of who they are. No less, no more. Police will take action as per law and bring the guilty to book.”

On the other hand, the BJP government has not let go of any opportunity to attack Congress and accused Siddaramaiah of delaying action against Nalapad. Malvika Avinash, the BJP spokesperson, said, “his young man is a repeat offender. He was involved in similar incidents in the past. Strict action must be taken against him.”

Meanwhile, all this, Harris' lawyer, B Usman, claimed that the CCTV footage on behalf of which Harris was arrested, also had a BJP MP's son in it. He said, "MH Nalapad's arrest procedure is complete, he will be produced before a district court. Police say he has been named as accused on the basis of CCTV footage from pub, seen in CCTV footage is son of a BJP MP also but he has not been named as an accused."
