Mumbai continues to reel under spell of intense monsoon rains with IMD issuing warning of heavy downpour in next 48 hours. The rains have killed total 35 people in Maharashtra with maximum deaths being reported from Mumbai. In the past 24 hours, India’s financial capital has received record volume of rain causing waterlogging and traffic snarls. In the wake of incessant rains, the Mumbai Airport became a place of chaos with passengers facing problems due to diversion of routes and flights getting cancelled. As of now, almost 52 flights have been cancelled while 54 have been diverted.
To make matters worse, a road allegedly ignored by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation caved-in leaving a gap of around 50-metres in Chandivali area of Mumbai. There’s no report of injury but the road has been blocked leading to traffic congestion.
As per BMC’s tweet, the suburbs in the city are likely to receive intermittent rains or showers with heavy to very falls at few places.Â

As per media reports, Mumbai has already received 505 mm of rain out of which 485 mm was received just between June 28 and July 1 noon.Â
On Monday, the Meteorological Department warned of "extremely heavy" rainfall in adjoining areas of Thane and Palghar on July 2, 4 and 5. K S Hosalikar, Deputy Director General of Regional IMD said, "Mumbai almost non stop heavy rains since Friday.... Vigorous activity. Now also the intense spells are continue and cumulative rainfall tomorrow morning would be very interesting figure. TC. Entire Maharashtra along with central India and adjoining areas under active monsoon."
