Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP Supremo Mayawati has announced that she will resign from Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The announcement came moments after she walked out of the Upper House for being interrupted while she was trying to highlight the atrocities on Dalits in UP.

Addressing the media outside the house, Mayawati alleged that "BJP is deceiving dalit people in the name of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, but the government is not letting me highlight the issue in the House. This has led me to decide that I will resign from Rajya Sabha today."

BSP chief said that her party had filed for an adjournment motion over the issue, hence the rule of 3 minutes speech did not apply to her. But despite that, she was not allowed to speak.

"Dalit homes were burnt down in Sabbirpur, but the government maintained a silence. I was not allowed to visit the area. One more Dalit was murdered after that," she said.

"We tried to send aide to the bereaved families, but the local authorities did not let us. Dalits in UP are highly ostracised," she added.
Insisting that the Parliament exists for the benefit of the common man, Mayawati said that even Dr Ambedkar had resigned when not allowed to present Hindu Code bill. "I am Baba Saheb's follower, if he can resign from his ministerial birth, I can too."

Mayawati also accused Yogi Adityanath of running a biased government, which encourages Gundaraj.
