Abhinandan's Unit, Squadron Who Carried Out Balakot Strikes To Be Awarded Citations

The No. 51 Squadron of Indian Air Force will be awarded the unit citation by IAF chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria. The unit will be awarded for for thwarting the Pakistani aerial attack and shooting down a Pakistani F-16 during the dogfight on February 27. The award will be received by the commanding officer Group Captain Satish Pawar. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was held captive for 60 hours in Pakistan after his aircraft was shot down during the aerial dogfight, belongs to this unit. Read more…

Road Traffic Offenders Can Be Prosecuted Under IPC, Get Stricter Punishment For Dangerous Driving

Driving dangerously and breaking road traffic laws may now land you in more trouble than before. The Supreme Court has ruled that road traffic offences can be prosecuted under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as the Motor Vehicles Act. It set aside a Gauhati High Court order to prosecute offenders of road accidents under Motor Vehicles Act only. Cancer Patient From Kashmir Held Under PSA In UP's Bareilly Jail, Family Moves Court

Authorities in Kashmir have detained a cancer patient from Kulgam district under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) and has been sent to jail in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. The family has now moved to J-K High Court seeking release of their son on medical grounds. Police have called Parvaiz Ahmad Palla, 33, “threat to safety and security of general public and sovereignty of the nation”. Read more…

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that the Department of State will do what is “required by law” in the impeachment proceedings against his boss and President Donald Trump. Pompeo, who is travelling in Greece, told reporters that he sent a letter in this regard to the Congress on Friday night which he said was the department’s initial response to the documents requested by a Congressional committee. The trend of petrol and diesel prices coming down continued on Sunday, October 6. This is the fourth straight day that petrol and diesel prices have come down after days of upward movement. On Sunday, the petrol rate decreased by 14-16 paise while diesel rate decreased by 11 to 13 paise accorss India today.
