New Delhi:

The Indian National Congress on Saturday termed the indefinite fast by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan a drama and said it is with farmers in their fight for their rights.

“Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s fast is a drama...it is a sham, he should answer why a case of murder has not been filed in the death of five farmers in Madhya Pradesh,” said party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

Surjewala said that MP govt didn’t pay any attention towards farmers and the apathy of govt forced them to sell their produce below minimum support price (MSP) to middlemen.

Surjewala alleged that Madhya Pradesh farmers are selling onions at a very cheap prices and the situation is similar in case of other crops like wheat and potatoes.

“This fast is nothing but a pretence...the Congress is with farmers in their fight for their rights,” Surjewala said.

Surjewala blamed BJP for making “false promises” that it will provide better prices to farmers for their produce and the MP govt has failed to give minimum selling price to them.

As the agitation entered its tenth day in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, Chief Minister Chouhan began his indefinite fast for the restoration of peace and promised profitable prices to farmers for their produce.

The farmers have been demanding better prices for their produce, debt relief, among other things.
