New Delhi:

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati attacked Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and former ally Akhilesh Yadav during the party’s national convention at its headquarters in Lucknow on Sunday, according to reports. Accusing Mulayam of “working hand in glove with the BJP”, Mayawati said that the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister conspired with the saffron party to frame her in the Taj corridor case.

The case pertains to alleged corruption in the Rs17-crore corridor project, launched by Mayawati in 2012 when she was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, for the beautification of areas near the Taj Mahal. The Supreme Court had ordered the CBI to probe the alleged Taj Heritage Corridor scam.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, with whom she fought the Lok Sabha polls, was also on the BSP chief’s target. Mayawati said that Akhilesh Yadav didn’t call her once after the results of general elections.

According to a report published by News18 citing sources, Mayawati told party leaders and workers at the meeting that Akhilesh Yadav didn’t work for non-Yadavs and the SC/STs when he was in power and this was one of the main reasons of the SP-BSP alliance’s failure in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

The latest attack against the Yadavs by Mayawati is likely to further dent the hopes of future alliance between the SP and the BSP. The two parties had fought the Lok Sabha elections 2019 together but failed miserably. Following the Lok Sabha poll debacle, Mayawati called off the alliance and decided to fight the upcoming byelections in the state alone.
