A man stabbed mother of rape survivor after she denied to withdraw rape case against his son in Mumbai. (Representative Image)

Police said, one Shivaji Kamble, 48, stabbed a 37-year-old woman in her stomach and neck on Tuesday evening at Mumbai’s Kurla. She was rushed to a local hospital by locals.

According to Nehru Nagar Police, the victim was later identified as mother of a rape survivor and her attacker as father of 22-year-old youth accused of raping the woman’s daughter.

Police sources said that Kamble's son, 22, has been in judicial custody since August after he was arrested for raping the complainant woman's daughter.

According to police, the incident occurred when the woman was purchasing vegetables at a nearby market. Kamble approached the woman asking her to withdraw the case. On denying he got furious and attacked the woman with a knife. The victim was kicked and dragged for few meters by the accused.

The victims standing nearby rushed the victim to a nearby hospital.

Police said, “Kamble has been taken into custody.”

Mumbai Police has registered a case against Kamble under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
