Mumbai on High Alert: A shocking security lapse has rocked Mumbai’s Navy Nagar in Colaba on the night of September 6. An unidentified man, dressed in a naval uniform, tricked an Agniveer jawan and fled with an INSAS rifle, three magazines, and 40 live cartridges from the Navy’s residential complex. According to sources, around 20 Agniveer soldiers were on duty as “Radar Protectors” when the incident occurred. The suspect introduced himself as a member of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and falsely claimed that the jawan had been relieved from duty, convincing him to hand over his weapon before vanishing with it.

Mumbai on High Alert, Massive Search Operation Launched

The incident triggered panic across the naval base and the city. The Indian Navy and Mumbai Police immediately launched a joint search operation to track down the suspect. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned, and a massive nakabandi (blockade) has been enforced around Colaba and adjoining regions. Given the sensitive nature of the Navy Nagar area, Mumbai has been placed under high alert, with security beefed up at all critical installations. Intelligence agencies and security forces have been instructed to remain on standby.

Indian Navy Issues Official Statement

The Indian Navy confirmed the incident in an official statement:

“A loss of a rifle along with ammunition from a sentry post was reported on the night of 06 September 2025 in the Navy’s residential area in Mumbai. A junior sailor on sentry duty was allegedly approached by another person in naval uniform who relieved him of his duties, claiming he had been sent to do so. Later, the person who assumed sentry duties was found missing from his post along with the rifle and ammunition.”

The Navy has ordered a Board of Inquiry to investigate the matter. Additionally, the Mumbai Police and other government agencies have been roped in to conduct a parallel, in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding this shocking breach.
