New Delhi:

Mumbai Police claimed to have arrested four persons part of the inter-state gang which had duped more than 1,200 people in different parts of the country on the pretext of providing jobs in foreign countries.

The Andheri Police working on an intelligence inputs raided at different locations and nabbed the four involved in the crime. The arrested have been identified as Amit Patole, Sarfaraz Sheikh, Abdul Ansari and Amardip Chauhan.

Mumbai Police have booked them under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 419 — cheating by personation — and 420 — cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

According to police the Patole, Sheikh and Ansari are from Uttar Pradesh, while Chauhan is a resident of Delhi.

A senior police official not willing to be quoted said, the four used to set up offices, collect money between Rs 10,000 and Rs 40,000 from people looking to work in foreign counteries.

D Reddy, DCP Zone X, told the media, “The four used to trap people by floating newspaper advertisement. Once the four managed to get money deposited by job aspirants they would change their location.”

The DCP explaining modus operandi said, Patole and Chauhan used to call people and lure them into the trap by explaining about lucrative job opportunities in foreign countries.

According to a police officer who wished anonymity said, the four have duped at least 180 people in Andheri and 500 from Kandivali area.

“During questioning the four we have learnt that the four have managed to dupe at least 600 people in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.”
