Muslim man beaten to death for dating Hindu girl in Jharkhand

In a latest incident of communal attack, a Muslim man has been allegedly beaten to death for dating a Hindu girl.

Mohammad Shalik, 20, was allegedly beaten to death by dozens after he dropped his Hindu girlfriend on scooter near her home in eastern Jharkhand's Gumla district, police said on Friday.

According to reports, he was tied to a pole and beaten with sticks and belts in front of her girlfriend. The incident took place on late Wednesday after which he later succumbed to injuries on Thursday, police said.

“We are trying to find whether the mob was instigated by the (girl’s) family,” Chandan Kumar Jha, Gumla police chief said.

So far, three people have been arrested in this case and hunt for others is on, Jha said. The case is being seen as a religiously motivated act, he further added.

Both were in a relationship for about a year and had been threatened in the past as well, Jha said.
