Muslim woman asked to remove burqa in Yogi Adityanath’s rally, govt orders probe

The Ballia district administration and police on Wednesday has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident of a Muslim woman being forced to take off her burqa in public during Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s rally.

Surendra Vikram, district magistrate, said, “The city magistrate has been asked to probe the incident. Actions will be taken against those found guilty.”

Adityanath was in Ballia on Tuesday to address an election meeting ahead of the local body elections. In a visual shot by a journalist, one can see three female police officers were seen standing next to a woman wearing burqa.

The lady can be seen removing the traditional dress on being gestured. A few seconds after a male police officer can be seen walking away with the garment.

The woman, was identified as Saira. She told the media that women constables to remove the black burqa.

Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said, “A departmental inquiry has been ordered. A DSP rank officer is conducting an inquiry.”

The SP also added that they had instructions that there should be no black flags in the rally.
