New Delhi:

In the famous Nabha jailbreak case of Punjab, a senior police officer has been charged for taking bribe and releasing an accused after arrest.

An IG level IPS officer of STF has been charged for taking bribe of Rs 45 lakh to release the mastermind of jailbreak Gurpreemat Singh alias Gopi Ghanshyam Pura.

Yogi Adityanath government has constituted a committee to investigate the matter. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has called an emergency meeting after the corruption charges.

The Directorate General of Police and Principal Secretary are present in the meeting called by Yogi Adityanath. According to sources, the audio tape of officer taking bribe is also available to the Chief Minister.

It is to be noted that more than a dozen armed men attacked Nabha jail and released six dreaded criminals last year. The prisoners who were released also included terrorists. More than 25 people have been arrested so far in the case.

Gopi Ghanshyam Pura was arrested in Lucknow last week. One of the six prisoners who fled Nabha jail, Harjinder Singh Bhullar had posted the news of Gopi’s arrest on his Facebook.

After seeing Harjinder’s post, Punjab police had talked to Uttar Pradesh police. UP police denied any such arrest.

According to Punjab police, Gopi’s last location was near Shahjahanpur. Then, Punjab police got information that senior officer released him after taking bribe of Rs 45 lakh.
