Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived in the temple town of Janakpur on a two-day state visit to Nepal.
Soon after arriving in the Nepalese city, Modi directly went to visit the famed 20th century Janaki temple and took part in special “Shodasopachara Poojaâ€.
Upon his arrival, Modi was welcomed by Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the temple complex. The prime minister also inaugurated a direct bus service from Nepal's Janakpur to Ayodhya in India.
"India and Nepal will work towards building 'Ramayan' circuit between both the countries. This will act as a foundation for strong people to people contact between the two nations," Modi said while flagging off the bus service.
During the visit, Modi will also inaugurate the Rs. 6,000-crore Arun 3 project which was expected to generate 900 MW of power. Apart from that, the PM will sign several pacts with Nepal.
This would be Modi's third visit to the neighbouring country and the first high-level meet after the new government was formed in Nepal.
"I will be visiting Nepal on 11th and 12th May at the invitation of PM Mr. KP Sharma Oli. This visit reflects the high priority India attaches to friendly relations with Nepal. I will be holding extensive talks with PM Oli on ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation," Modi tweeted on Thursday.
He said that India would continue to remain a steadfast partner of Government of Nepal to implement the vision of ‘Samriddha Nepal, Sukhi Nepali'.
