Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday promised "pakka makaan" to all by 2022 and informed about his government's work done so far in achieving the target.
Addressing an event on ‘Transforming Urban Landscape’ in Lucknow, Modi said that the Centre had approved 54 lakh houses in the cities and provided more than 1 crore houses in the villages to ensure that everyone has a house to live in by 2022.
The ‘Transforming Urban Landscape’ event was held to mark the third anniversary of his government’s three key initiatives related to urban development- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)- Urban, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation of Urban Transfornation (AMRUT), and the Smart Cities Mission in Lucknow.

Earlier, Modi arrived in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh on his two-day visit to the politically significant state. During the visit, the prime minister interacted with 35 beneficiaries of PMAY (Urban), one from each state or union territory, according to an official statement.
Modi also laid the foundation stones for as many as 99 developmenatl projects worth Rs 3,397 crore under Flagship Mission in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering, Modi recalled the efforts of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said that his vision to ‘Transform the Landscape of Urban India’ was closely connected with Lucknow.

During the event, the prime minister also transferred funds worth Rs 606.85 to more than 60,426 beneficiaries in UP under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) via online transfer.

Meanwhile, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India was undergoing the largest ever planned urbanisation in the world and added that Smart Cities Mission will revolutionize the country while AMRUT will make drinking water available to citizens.
On Sunday, Modi will attend a ground breaking ceremony of projects worth Rs 60,000 crore which had materalised following the UP Investors Summit in February 2018.
The summit led to the generation of investment intent worth more than Rs 4.28 lakh crore across sectors like Renewable Energy, Infrastructure, Power, IT & Electronic Manufacturing, Tourism.
