A national-level weightlifter and Muslim woman Heena Usmani has alleged that police and authorities in BJP governed Uttar Pradesh are not listening to her complain over being troubled by men in Agra.
The national-level athlete alleged that a local man assaulted her two brothers and mother when they protested against offensive comments they passed on her.
The incident took place in Shahganj area on May 30 when Heena’s younger brother Solip was visiting his friend’s place where a man named Sanjay in his mid-20s who often use to stalk the athlete, made lewd comments about her to instigate her brother.
"The harassment continued even after May 30 evening. On June 3, two of Sanjay's cronies on motorbikes threatened me with dire consequence while I was heading for my weightlifting practice alone," the athlete told a leading English daily.
"After this, we went to the Shahganj police station and gave written a complaint against the accused but the police booked him for a non-cognizable offence under the IPC sections of 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and did not arrest him. But later to take revenge Sanjay filed a counter FIR of robbery against my two brothers and my mother," TOI quoted Heena as saying.
The incident came to light on Saturday when Heena along with her family visited the SSP's office to complain about the local police who were supposedly favouring the accused.
After the incident got reported in media, under pressure Police have revoked the IPC section 392 (robbery) against Heena's family and initiated a probe in the case.
