On the fourth day of Chaitra Navaratri, devotees worship Devi Kushmanda, i.e will be worshiped on September 24, Sunday this year. Goddess Kushmanda is recognized as – She mounts a lioness and has eight arms – her right hands carry a kamandalu, Dhanush, Bada and Kamal while her left hands hold Amrit Kalash (pot of nectar), rudraksh mala, Gada and Chakra.
Devi Kushmanda's name depicts her importance where Ku stands for 'a little', Ushma means 'energy' and Anda stands for 'cosmic egg'.
She is said to be Lord Shiva's consort. It also stated that it was she who created the universe with her divine smile.
When the universe was non-existent and darkness prevailed everywhere, Maa Kushmanda produced the Cosmic egg with her smile, bringing light to the universe.
Kushmanda is believed to have the power to live in the core of the son. She not just give directions to Suryadev but is because of her luminosity that Sun gets its brightness.
