Naxal commander Charlie, wanted for killing 30 security personnel, arrested in Jharkhand; Maoist camp busted, automatic rifles recovered

Joint security forces arrested a Naxal commander, who was wanted for killing at least 30 security personnel and a dozen of civilians, was arrested from Maoist dominated Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Monday after an encounter.

A senior officer of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) said, “A joint operation of Jharkhand Police and 203 battalion of CoBRA launched an anti-insurgency operation on intelligence inputs in Parasnath Hills.”

He added that on early in the morning CPI-Maoist cadres indiscriminately opened fire on the security forces. ‘We gave them a befitting reply. Several Maoist cadres managed to escape the dense forest but we busted their camp Naxal camp.”

He did not confirm the arrest but another senior officer of Jharkhand Police confirmed the development and said, “The arrested has been identified as Charliee. He is being questioned at an unknown location. He had Rs 8 lakh reward on his head. The commander was wanted for killing 30 security personnel.”

He added that they have recovered five INSAS, one AK-47, two .303 rifles, a walkie-talkie, a naxal diary, Maoist training manual, more than 200 rounds of bullet, codex wires and day to day usage materials.

The officer added that they have also recovered a diary containing daily transaction of Maoists and their source of levy collection from businessman.
