NCP MP Supriya Sule Demands Social Security For Mediapersons

Being a journalist is not an easy job. apart from working 365 days under pressure to deliver the news, a journalist has to face threats, abuses, allegations of being biased and what not. Yet, they never ask anything in return. Taking a note of their everyday struggle, NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday pitched for social security for mediapersons during the Zero Hour in Parliament.

Sule said that in times of "breaking news", media personnel work for long hours under harsh conditions. She said that when Maharashtra was witnessing a political crisis, she camerapersons riding pillion on two wheelers following politicians.

"It is dangerous ... There were women reporters who stood outside houses (of politicians) without washrooms and food," she said.

The parliamentarian from Maharashtra’s Baramati, Sule asked members of Lok Sabha to give their views on social security for media persons so that the issue can be taken forward.

During the political turmoil in Maharashtra recently, Sule had shared a picture of a camera person chasing her convoy and asked them to take care while covering the "breaking news". "I agree it’s a Breaking News but Please Take Care. Media Safety First. I am worried about the Driver and Cameraman," she had tweeted.
