'New India?' Rahul Gandhi's cryptic tweet on International Yoga Day confounds netizens

Congress president Rahul Gandhi

From the Indian Army to China's famed Shaolin Temple to Britain's iconic St. Paul's Cathedral, yoga enthusiasts rolled out their mats on Friday to participate in colourful events held across the world to mark the fifth International Yoga Day. However, it seems Congress president Rahul Gandhi is yet to recover from a poll setback suffered in the Lok Sabha election 2019. On Friday, Gandhi tweeted a photo of Indian Army dogs and their handlers performing exercises on the occasion of International Yoga Day, saying “New India.”

The Congress president's tweet drew a sharp reaction from Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya.

"Ok. He still hasn't learnt his lessons. In one go, he has insulted our Army, brave Jawans, the incredible dog unit, Yoga tradition & our country. I feel really sad for all the young Congress workers (if there are any left) that they have to deal with this man as their leader," Surya tweeted.

Responding to Gandhi’s tweet, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said: It’s a sign of the Congress’s depression and frustration. When the entire world is celebrating the International Yoga Day, he posts such a tweet. A person tweets according to his level.

Many Twettarati also wonder why did Gandhi post the tweet.

Chinese army troops and civilians for the first time participated in a joint Yoga session with Indian army personnel along the Indo-China border in the Eastern border on Friday. Altogether 70 Chinese army personnel and 30 civilians participated in the joint yoga sessions at Nathu-La in Sikkim and at Bumla and Wacha-Damai in Arunachal Pradesh, a defence spokesperson Lt Col Harshwardhan Pande said.

June 21, the Northern Hemisphere's longest day, is celebrated as the International Yoga Day worldwide after the United Nations General Assembly adopted in 2014 a proposal mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yoga has become immensely popular all over China in the past few decades and is emerging as a major fitness discipline which is specially promoted by the Chinese Ministry of Sports.
